Drones and Butterflies

This short video is meant to be a lighthearted introduction to some the technology in our office that we use on our projects. Specifically, drone technology. We have several drones that we deploy on certain projects to help us understand the site and the existing conditions: plants and trees, overhead wires, views, adjacent buildings and even the roof condition of an existing structure. We also use drones to augment our creative process by using still images taken from the drone and overlaying into a rendering of the project. Credits to my former colleagues, Pawel and Patricia for their voices and to Isabel Bozdogan for helping us finalize the video for upload.

Things: Sensitile

A new product arrived at our studio: Sensitile. An American made, internationally recognized designer and fabricator of materials used for architectural design. According to the website the product is sustainable in that it uses up to 20% recycled content and uses no VOCs during production or the product’s life cycle. They have a number of products; some combine different materials: resins, polymers, and glass—each having varying degrees of translucency. We think the material has a number of uses but we expect to investigate using them as divider screens or cladding where light can be combined to create spatial and textural effects.
